HKR Architects Obtain Planning Permission for Ireland’s Tallest Hotel
HKR Architects (HKR), the international architecture and design practice with offices in Dublin, London, Manchester, Belfast, Prague and Sarasota, has obtained planning permission for their design for the new Red Cow Moran Hotel, Ireland’s tallest hotel. The 17 storey building will contain 500 hotel rooms and suites as well as a conference centre and extensive leisure facilities. A public sky-bar will offer spectacular views from the top floor of the landmark tower located at Dublin’s Red Cow Roundabout.
The new Red Cow Moran Hotel will be a landmark building in Dublin and the hotel’s unique design will be an impressive and memorable architectural gateway when approaching or leaving Dublin. The €100 million project, which includes two phases of development, is being undertaken by HKR on behalf of Moran Hotels, who also own the Red Cow Inn. The development, which will be partly built on the site of the existing Red Cow Hotel, will include over 500 bedrooms, restaurants and bars, a conference centre which will cater for over 1,500 people and a multi-storey car park.
The most striking iconic feature of the design is a 17 storey landmark building, facing the Red Cow roundabout. The tower will feature a unique roof top bar which will not only offer spectacular long distance views, but will also be a visual reference point seen along the M50 and the N7. The façade of the tower will be brought to life through the use of coloured glass and screens, the shifting pattern of illuminated and closed areas will create a vibrant and animated effect when viewed both by day and night.
Development of the first phase of the project will commence on the existing exhibition centre and the surface car park with the proposed second phase replacing the existing building with an additional wing of new guest accommodation and a second convention space. The two wings are designed to create a central park between them, offering guests a landscaped open space that will be completely environmentally protected from the Naas Road.
