Design with the environment in mind

David Heffernan’s architecture firm has gone through several phases since he set it up 30 years ago, and he sees environmental issues looming large in the next phase of development. Australian-born Heffernan set up Heffernan & Associates Architects in London in 1978, and moved to Galway in the early 1990s. The Barna-based practice employs ten people, and has carried out projects in Ireland, Britain, France and Australia. It specialises in energy conservation projects, and its services include full or partial architectural consultancy, project management, planning consultancy and interior design.
