Chosen after an architectural competition in 1904. The building is enlivened by sculptures by F.E.E. Schenck. The figures are John Milton; William Shakespeare; a male figure with a book, representing Literature; a female figure with a paintbrush, representing the Arts; another female figure with a wheel, representing Spinning; and a male figure with a pair of compasses, representing Astronomy. Grade II listed.
