1992 – Hotel Arts, Barcelona

One of two landmark towers marking the beginning of the Olympic Port area, the Hotel Arts by SOM is 153 metres tall. Like the neighbouring tower, the Hotel Arts is based on a 33 metre x 33 metre plan but in elevation received a completely different treatment. The exterior structure of white painted steelwork is gridded to a height of four storeys and makes the building look lighter than its neighbour. The area around the base is dominated by Frank Gehry’s Fish.
