Ballsbridge development plan voted down

logo_dublincityDublin city councillors have voted against making Ballsbridge a prime development site. Councillors voted against the wishes of official planners who wanted to make Ballsbridge a Key Development Centre (KDC) in the new development plan for 2011 to 2017.

It was councillors’ refusal to designate the area for large scale development in the last plan that led An Bord Pleanála to turn down developer Sean Dunne’s plans for the Jurys and Berkeley Court sites. Although officials did not envisage high rise for the area, the designation would have allowed high density development.

Councillors from the Southeast area have already voted against Mr Dunne’s plans for the hotel site, consisting of 12 blocks of mainly residential development including two 15 storey towers. The elected representatives particularly criticised the high density nature of the scheme.

City councillors will continue to debate the new development plan at another special meeting next Wednesday which will include future high rise plans.
