GM + AD bag Australian debut

Glasgow-based GM + AD Architects has landed its first scheme “˜down under’ – the design of the new Glenroy Specialist School, in Melbourne The 26-classroom building in the State of Victoria will also house physiotherapy, occupational therapy and hydrotherapy spaces as well as specialist medical support areas, library, art, Music, IT, multi-sensory and multi-purpose centres.

The scheme has recently received a £7.5 million handout from the Federal Government of Australia – the single biggest award ever in the country for a specialist school.

Describing the practice’s role in the project, practice founder Alan Dunlop said: “˜[We] have an ongoing consultancy role supporting the principal, the school community and the nominated architects in the identification of community needs, selection of a site and maximising the potential for development of the brief for the school based on the extensive research that was done in the development of the Hazelwood school.’
