Richard Knill Freeman was born in 1838 or 1839 and practised in Bolton, Greater Manchester from 1865, initially in partnership with George Cunliffe and after 1871 alone. He later became Diocesan Surveyor for Manchester. He had a loose partnership from 1886-1897 with S. Denison Robins who practised in Sunderland and Newcastle which seems to have been mainly for the purpose of entering competitions in the north east. Freeman died in 1904.
