This distinguished building in the Phoenix Park Headquarters of the Garda Siochana formerly the Officers’ Mess and now the Garda Officers’ Club, dates from 1863. The plans were drawn by Benjamin Woodward whose work in Dublin includes the old museum in Trinity College Dublin, and the original Kildare Street Club. Woodward’s style is clearly evident; but without the ebullient carving and decoration visible in his other works – this is a much more restrained and sober design.
