1906 – Garrick Hotel, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Built as an hotel in 1906 and still in operation, the Garrick is a local landmark on Garry Street. The hotel originally opened as the Mount Royal Hotel in 1907, without a liquor licence. Later the Wellington Hotel, there were interior alterations by J.S. Hooper around 1913. It received its current name in 1922. A striking building, the façade is brick, with stone and terra cotta accents. The original balconies to the street were removed. Quite grand in its day, the main entrance to the hotel opened up to a rotunda and large dinging room. The original configuration of accommodation had thirty five single rooms which shared communal bathrooms and twelve suites with full bathrooms and sitting rooms.
