Classically inspired commerical building with distinct base and attic storey with an ornate cornice above. Constructed for the Sterling Bank of Canada. Older photographs show an imposing central entrance.

“This is a structural steel 8-storey building on the northwest corner of Portage avenue and Smith street. It is faced with terra cotta and yellow brick. The building was scarcely completed when a large addition at the rear was commenced and rushed to completion in mid-summer. The bank occupies the main floor, the remainder of the building being rented for office purposes.”
