Demolished in 2001, Downes Meehan & Robson’s headquarters for the Irish Life Assurance Company was one of the earliest office development outside of the city centre, acting as a trendsetter for the Ballsbridge area. Four later Georgian houses were demolished to allow its construction. The four story block on pilotis was sited around an attractive courtyard. Later used by the Blood Transfusion Board. As office accommodation needs grew, the space underneath the block was filled in with extra space.
