If you’re driving down a street in Los Angeles and you happen to pass a modern, boldly colored building characterized by creative uses of textures and materials, then you probably are looking at one of LOHA’s design creations. During the past 20 years, Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects (LOHA) built over 60 projects, won over 40 awards and has been an active contributor to the Los Angeles built environment. For these reasons and more, AIA|LA presented LOHA with the 2010 AIA|LA Firm of the Year Award at the 2010 Design Award Party on October 27.
Selected by the AIA|LA Board of Directors, the Firm of the Year Award is the highest honor AIA|LA can bestow on an architecture firm consistently producing distinguished architecture. LOHA contributes an innovative perspective to the forever evolving Los Angeles architectural blend .
Lorcan O’Herlihy says that the firm was “Surprised and thrilled. There are so many deserving firms in Los Angeles and to be recognized by my peers is a great honor. Our work is motivated by the possibility of real change and to get there we often employ strategies which are unconventional and challenges ourselves to seek out new ways of thinking. It requires a great deal of optimism from our team and trust from our clients to get there.”
