Selected design after an architectural competition to design a school for the advancement of Methodism. Originally it provided for a new school for 200 pupils with additional collegiate department providing accommodation for students attending Queen’s College (now Queen’s University, sited nearby). Construction continued until 1871. This was Fogerty’s largest commission.
