The RIAI Public Choice Award 2011 has been won by Limerick Milk Market. Located at the heart of Limerick City, the Milk Market has existed since the 1840’s and was restored as an open air market in 1985 to 1993. A further development in 2010 by Healy Partners Architects led to the addition of a tensile roof covering the inside of the marketplace, while still retaining the essential outdoor atmosphere. The erected structure does not come in contact with the existing Market buildings and City Wall (located underground) both of which are protected. The canopy has been successful in keeping the rain out and sound in.
