40 shades of green buildings

greeningThe St. Patrick’s Festival is currently looking for buildings to participate in this year’s ‘Greening the City initiative’. First launched in 2011, businesses, landmark buildings, entertainment venues and cultural institutions are asked to consider illuminate ‘green’ at the time of the Festival (16-19 March) to animate the city.

Tourism Ireland runs a ‘Global Greening’ campaign with an emphasis on celebrating our vibrant culture and connecting cities and communities across the world. In recent years these have included the ‘greening’ of iconic landmarks such as the London Eye, Sydney Opera House, Empire State Building, Table Mountain and more. Iconic green buildings serve as a positive world-wide recognition of Ireland and a fantastic promotion of our country on an international platform. The St Patrick’s Festival wants to achieve a similar effect back at home and buildings confirmed include Trinity College Dublin (Front Gate), St Patrick’s Cathedral, the Jeanie Johnston, the Convention Centre, Collins Barracks, Dublin Civic Offices, City Hall, Riverside One and the Exchange in Temple Bar.

To take part, all you need is to activate your building lighting system to illuminate green or alternatively place green filters/gels on your existing lighting to create a city-wide illumination for the duration of the Festival. All participating buildings will be profiled on the Festival website and it is likely that the press will pick up on the activity. Contact Natasha Purtill at the St. Patrick’s Festival, Hospitality@stpatricksfestival.ie if you’re are interested to participate.
