Ardagh is a small designed estate village, laid out around a small village green. The cottages were all largely designed by the architect James Rawson Carroll, (1830 – 1911). The cottages have steeply pitched slated roofs with dormer windows, steeply pitched gables and the walls are faced with stone and brick with gothic windows, half-hexagonal bays and projecting porches. The work was carried out between 1862-64.
