1859 – Adam Clarke Memorial Obelisk, Portrush, Co. Antrim

Architect: William Barre

0008

A45 foot tall obelisk to a leading member of early Methodism, Adam Clarke whio was born in County Derry. John Wesley invited him to become a pupil at a seminary he established at Kingswood in Bristol. He went on to become an eminent scholar and theologian. Barre’s design is very similar, albeit on a smaller scale, to his Dawson Memorial in Monaghan.
