‘New Now Next’ for 2014 announced

Arup‘New Now Next’, the annual series of talks by globally significant architects curated by Irish Architecture Foundation in collaboration with Arup, was launched in Dublin today. The hugely popular ‘New Now Next’ series presents provocative international and domestic architects, in an accessible manner. All of the events are free to the public, are hosted in unique spaces and feature a strong social aspect.

Rory McGowan, Director, Arup said: “At ‘New Now Next’, world-leading architects present exciting and challenging views in unique spaces. Since its genesis, Arup has been challenging views; we aim to shape a better world. This year in addition to bringing some of the brightest international thinkers including Samuli Woolston, Minsuk Chop and Olé Scheeren to Dublin, the series will also provide a platform for ‘The New Generation’ of domestic talent.”

The first event in the ‘New Now Next’ series takes place on 7th May in Samuel Beckett Theatre, Trinity College Dublin and features Samuli Woolston. Samuli Woolston is one of the four founding partners at ALA Architects one of the leading firms in Finland. He has won a host of architectural competitions, most recently first prize for a hotel in Tampere Finland; last year for Helsinki Central Library, Finland; in 2012 for Khersonskaya Street in St. Petersburg, Russia; and in 2011 for the Glass Pavilion at Tampere, Finland. He also designed all of the retail concepts for Nokia worldwide between 2008-10.

A New Generation – June 26th 2014

A New Generation is a panel of 3 Irish practices. Laurence Lord, from Architecture Practice+Experimentation (Amsterdam and Copenhagen), Lucy Jones (Dublin and Brussels) and Steve Larkin (Dublin) will take to the stage to discuss their work from a national and international perspective.
Venue and booking will be announced in June.

Minsuk Cho – Sept 10th 2014
Mass Studies was founded in 2003 by Minsuk Cho in Seoul, Korea, as a critical investigation of architecture in the context of mass production, intensely over-populated urban conditions, and other emergent cultural niches that define contemporary society.

He co-curated an exhibition titled “Named Design” with Anthony Fontenot for the Gwangju Design Biennale 2011, directed by Seung H-Sang and Ai Weiwei. Minsuk Cho is the Commissioner of the Korean Pavilion for the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale 2014.

Ole Scheeren – Autumn, exact details TBC
Ole Scheeren is a German architect and principal of Buro Ole Scheeren with offices in Hong Kong and Beijing. Educated at the universities of Karlsruhe and Lausanne, he graduated from the Architectural Association in London and was awarded the RIBA Silver Medal. Prior to launching Buro Ole Scheeren in March 2010, Scheeren was Director and Partner along with Rem Koolhaas at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture.
