Turkish entrant, #201, which was commended in the competition to design a new library for Trinity College Dublin. According to the jury, it “presents a tough and at first sight rather brutal solution which kept the affection and loyalty of at least one member of the Jury to the final stages. The stepped approach is most handsomely handled, and the section has a deceptive simplicity. In library service and operation the plan was adjudged unsatisfactory in that readers would have to climb steps before and after entering to a height of 21.ft before reaching the general reading areas. In fact, the heavy traffic reader areas are placed on the top floor. Lower and more convenient floors are given over to the storage of infrequently used books.”
