Known as the Twelve Apostles, and situated just behind the Tunnel Brae carpark, these were old labourers cottages.

“We illustrate with present issue a block of cottages recently erected from plans by Mr. F.H. Godwin, architect, of Derry, for Sir H.H. Bruce, Bart. The material used for the walls is the local basalt, freestone being used for the dressings of doors and windows; the plan, therefore, only shows the walls tobe about half their real thickness. The roof is covered with blue slates, tiles being found to be too costly. The work was done by contract, and there are twelve cottages in the block.”
