€2 million in funding for 370 Heritage Properties
The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has announced that 370 heritage properties across the country have been awarded funding under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2018. The scheme will provide €2m for the conservation and repair of protected structures in private and public ownership. The grants awarded range from €2,500 to €15000 per property. The grants have been awarded following assessments by local authorities who accepted applications from members of the public and who put recommended heritage properties forward to the Minister for approval.
Announcing the heritage properties benefiting from the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2018, Minister Madigan said: “This investment will support the custodians and owners of protected structures in every local authority area across the country as they carry out small-scale projects to conserve and repair our built heritage. The projects will improve the appearance and condition of heritage properties and will also support local jobs in conservation and traditional skills.
Heritage properties are important to communities who have a great sense of pride in their built heritage. These grants will come as a welcome boost to those charged with looking after our heritage properties. I am delighted to be able to continue our investment in protecting our built heritage for the future.”
Of the 370 heritage properties awarded funding, many are private residences or places of worship. A number are vernacular houses requiring rethatching. There are also follies, forges, market houses, mills, monuments and railway stations among the heritage properties.
