1983 – Great West Life Assurance, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Architect: Smith Carter Partners / Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP
Designed as the corporate headquarters, the building is a large square in plan with large uninterupted expanses of stone facing. The entrance facade is broken by a large setback with massive stone columns creating an air of solidity and permanence – just right for a financial assurance company. The remaining facades are more subdued with curtain walled glazing interupting the expanse of stone.
