1769 – Design for Royal Exchange, Dublin
Architect: Thomas Sandby
Third placed entry in competition to design a Royal Exchange for Dublin. Some sources including Wright’s “An Historical Guide to Ancient and Modern Dublin” (1821) suggest he was placed second with a premium of 60 Guineas, with James Gandon third. However with Gandon’s obituary stating that Gandon was second, it’s commonly accepted that to be correct. The competition was won by Thomas Cooley, and his building became City Hall.
