Actually, this picture is of PS 62, which opened in 1905 and was demolished in the early 1930s.  It was on Hester St between Essex and Norfolk, which is now a park.  It was one of the grandest elementary schools in the system - 6 floors and elevators.

PS 42 opened in 1898 on Hester St between Orchard and Ludlow.  It still stands and still functions as a public school.
