They really dont care, do they these county councillors? Politics in the country is a joke, we are our own worst enemies.

A Kerry county councillor, Mr Michael Healy-Rae, is one of those most virulently opposed to the An Taisce proposals. He has moved a number of Section 4s, or motions to overturn refusals of planning, in the council in the past six months. “All these section 4s are for genuine people, for family members, who have a God-given right to build on their own land,” he pointed out. Mr Healy-Rae has called for the disbanding of An Taisce, which he claims is “anti-rural Ireland”. `We are trying to keep growth in rural Ireland, and they want to close it down and to make us live like rats on top of each other . . . An Taisce are like the Ku Klux Klan,” he said. A

Kerry An Taisce planning officer, Ms Catherine McMullin, admitted that some of the proposals in the draft policy were meeting stiff resistance among rural members. But she said Kerry and other counties would have to do something about one-off housing which was poised to destroy the tourist industry and the environment.

I could’nt agree more. These councillors have’nt a clue when it comes to planning or architecture especially the rural type who’s past track records include the blight and desecration of Dublin city in the past. Healy-Rae Junior is the ultimate bogger just like his dad he’s only out to get votes. We have the equivalent in Dublin in the form of Tony Gregory esq. whose main priority is the ‘salt of the earth, one of our own’, unemployable classes and is very willing to put the wants of such people first before the greater needs of the whole of the city. One could include a few Green councillors too; such a mixed bunch object to every bloody thing proposed for the city including Calatrava’s bridges.

We really could do with a dictator in this country that could string up Tony Gregory and both Healy-Raes. I propose me. A dictator with an interest in good architecture. Sorted.

Nice one Rory W that’ll fix the lot and you could bring ‘TD’ above in as your right hand man, your ‘Hess’ if you like, for ‘class clensing’ and get rid of all boggers and unemployable classes. Although as a country boy living in the north inner city it’s curtains for me. How am I even allowed partisipate in an architectural forum, am I speaking out of class.

Bloody right mate especially if your one of those undesirable social classes, an unemployable layabout who gets up to no good, who peddles in drugs, maybe robs, usually badly educated cause mitched from school when young, takes regular holidays in Mountjoy Prison, assaults foreign nationals, partakes in vandalising his/her surroundings, expects and receives every form of social assistance but does’nt regard it,and has no respect for society or the city your living in. You may know the type.

True and you could include half the members of the Dail too. Hey poor ‘country boy northsider’ oblivious to your surroundings, this poor mouth lark is a bit incongruous today. It was alright during the famine and when things were really bad, but not today. There’s opportunities there for everyone today, so don’t be feeling sorry for yourself.Idealism, civilization and architecture, the betterment of oneslf and society ……..it’s what life is all about.

‘Civilization and Architecture’, I very much doubt if Healy-Rae and Gregory know the meaning of the words.

Ah! sure they should fill those lakes in, level those mountains, tarmacadam the lot and build Tallaght No.2 there. Sure that’s what Healy-Rae wants is’nt it. What is it with Healy-Rae and some rural folk….. They go on about the decline of the west, the dwindling town populations etc…and yet they are only to willing to spoil the beautiful natural landscape with absurd mediterranean style villas. They should concentrate their populations within their towns. Another thing, these little towns complain about heavy traffic pounding their roads as they drive through and yet when a ring road is built to relieve the problem they complain about the lack of businees and that the place has become a ghost town……there’s no pleasing them!
