Looks like demolition has begun on the two houses near Vicar Street. I had a sneak around the rear and there’s definitely plenty of interior gutting being done anyway. However, it’s the front bit that interests me as a bricked up arch has been revealed during the works.
I know the houses are doomed, and hate facade-only conservation, but would have loved to see them remain in some way.

Well, I’d gladly contribute financially if it meant saving the forum – there are plenty of buildings going up and major planning decisions being made currently that would have had the old Archiseek board ‘buzzing’
Work about to begin on this project – very sad to see Mother Redcaps go, along with probably all sense of intimacy and history that Back Lane still (somehow) retains
Could we be looking at it from the wrong end? What about from the Castle St corner, looking North?? The dog-leg is repeated here

What a dense, beautiful city Dublin once was
With all the activity along this stretch, I’ve found myself drawn to this spot lately, and began wondering… how did this get built?
I mean what’s going on with the little single bay former pub (now the off license) and could someone explain to me what the story is with the odd window arrangement of the building it’s attached to??
I presume you’ve all seen this by now?
Was the discovery just ‘luck?’
