Modelled on an Irish round tower, this 28 metre tall memorial was built in 1888 by public subscription as a tribute to James Chaine (1841-1885) of Ballycraigy Manor in the town,
“THE opening of the Society’s new Church Missionaries’
Grade II* and constructed by the Jesuits.

Claines’ original Norman Church was rebuilt in the 15th century.
