Named due to its proximity to Trinity College. At one time it was intended to construct an entrance front for the college on this street at the end of D’Olier Street, thereby creating a suitable ending for the Georgian vista down D’Olier and Drogheda Streets.
The Royal Irish Institution for encouraging the Fine Arts in Ireland, was founded in 1813. Its objects were the “stimulating native talent by furnishing models to assist the labours of Irish artists and by rewarding the authors of works of superior merit.”
At the junction of College Street and Westmoreland Street, once stranded on a traffic island with a disused public toilet (now removed) is this statue to the Irish bard Thomas Moore.
Now part of the Westin Hotel, designed in 1863 as the Headquarters of the Provincial Bank and built over the next few years.
Orginally built in 1875 with some minor additions in 1879 for Scottish Widows, this was for many years a bank branch of AIB.
Pair of late Victorian commercial buildings later converted into part of the Provincial Bank. Demolished to make way for the Westin Hotel in the late 1990s.
