1738 – St. Finn Barre’s Cathedral, Cork
Built to replace a decaying medieval cathedral, it retained the tower and spire of the old cathedral. Completed in 1738, it was demolished in 1865 to make way for the present cathedral by William Burges.

Designed by local architect John Roberts, this is one of the architectural gems of Waterford. In 1773 the old Norman Gothic Cathedral was demolished after pressure was brought on the local bishop by the City Corporation.
The historic cathedral on the Rock of Cashel was closed for worship in 1721. Meanwhile the old parish church of St John was removed and the present Georgian cathedral completed in 1784.
The lower part of the tower was completed as per this design, but the secondary level and the spire received a different treatment.
The cathedral incorporates parts of the 13th-century church of the Benedictine Abbey of Down.
