Irish Sustainable Building Show opens Thursday
A highlight of this year’s Irish Sustainable Building Show, which is now in its third year, will be the sustainable wooden house which will be located by the show entrance. Building begins on the house on September 5th and it will be completed for the show 2 weeks later. Wooden houses are relatively unknown in Ireland however over 80% of houses around the world are built entirely from wood. The 208m² Show House, built by The Wooden House Builders Ltd, will highlight the many benefits of wooden house construction. Visitors can also walk through a scaled down version of an Ecohouse, from EcoHouse Ltd, complete with renewable energy technology powering the whole house and creating zero carbon emissions.
With growing concern over global warming, energy conservation and environmental issues, this show will demonstrate how we can all make an impact on better quality environments. The free seminar programme will provide hands on advice from some of the industry’s most respected speakers. This year’s seminar series will tackle subjects like:
- Calculating local carbon footprints
- Challenges facing Ireland in order to combat climate change
- A look at what steps can be taken to reduce your carbon footprint in the household
- Progress of green building in Ireland.
- Generate your own energy through microgeneration
- Using bio fuels
The Show, which will be held in the RDS Simmonscourt 20th – 22nd September, 2007, is strongly supported by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and will run alongside the Building Exhibition, the construction industry’s biggest Event in Ireland and the iT Village, the country’s first ever ‘IT in construction’ show.
