Douglas Wallace Architects & DesignersDouglas Wallace Architects confirmed yesterday that Mr Ken Fennell of Kavanagh Fennell has been appointed liquidator of the firm. This follows a period in examinership during which the firm were unable to establish an appropriate scheme of arrangement to meet its obligations. Douglas Wallace Architects, established in 1982 has been a pioneer in Irish architecture and design. With offices in Ireland, the UK and Europe the firm has worked on high profile projects across Ireland, Europe and the UK for clients such as Brown Thomas, Harrods, Accor Hotels, Intercontinental Hotels, Bang & Olufsen and Quinlan Private. Most recently the firm has won awards for its work on the G Hotel, Galway, the EYE cinema, Galway, Peter Marks, Dublin, and Dundrum Town Centre interior architecture.

In a statement, the partners said that “This sad and regrettable decision is the unfortunate consequence of the firm’s exposure to the wider economic downturn in Ireland and the UK. While the firm is wholly concerned with meeting its business obligations to all parties, it is today very conscious of the impact this will have on its loyal staff who are responsible for the firm’s proudest days over the years and who have been hugely supportive over recent months. Douglas Wallace would also like to acknowledge and thank the support of its clients at this difficult time.”
