Green Works Ireland – Training in Sustainable Technologies

cultivateGreen Works provides training across Ireland (€FREE for Jobseekers!) in sustainable technologies including Construction, Land Use, Architectural Technology, Tourism and Entrepreneurism. Green Works also connects employers with work placements who help develop green and sustainable strategies for businesses.

Opportunities include full or partial progression toward FETAC certificates, themed course bundles, clinic hours, network activity, work placements, workshops and lectures. Foundation modules (for most FETAC certificate programmes and course bundles) include Sustainable Development, Green Building and Permaculture Design.

Current courses being offered include:

Green Building Module – FETAC Level 5

Starts late October 2010 (and rolling admissions
In this foundation module you will learn the principles and practices of green building and will develop your awareness of the environmental problems arising from conventional construction practices. You will become familiar with the “˜palette’ of green building materials and techniques and learn how to minimise energy consumption in all stages of a building’s life cycle. The green building principles and practices you learn will enable you to bring an ecological understanding to the process of the design.

Sustainable Development Module – FETAC Level 5

Starts late October 2010 (and rolling admissions)
This foundation module develops: keen enquiry into concepts such as sustainability and quality of life, carrying capacity and resilient communities; awareness of the multiplicity of development issues including environmental, societal and economic as well as education about same; abilities in problem solving, critical thinking, systems thinking, analysis (auditing, etc.), facilitation and communication. Learners facilitate a workshop on an environmental issue of their choice, incorporating education for sustainable development methodologies

Sustainable Construction Technology Certificate Programme – FETAC Level 5

From late October 2010 until mid April 2011
This programme of modules provides participants with an understanding of sustainability and how it relates to construction and the built environment. Areas covered include Renewable Energy Systems, Green Building, Building Physics, as well as Heritage and Construction Techniques. A work placement forms an integral part of the programme. It is likely to be particularly suitable to those who wish to work in the new construction industry, as exacting requirements and new standards will require new skills and understanding of green building technologies. The programme leads to FETAC Level 5 in Construction Technology.

Sustainable Architectural Technology Certificate Programme – FETAC Level 6

From late October 2010 until mid April 2011
This programme provides participants with an understanding of sustainability and how it relates to design and project management in the built environment. Areas covered include Green Building, Building Physics, as well as Building Energy Rating and Project Management. A work placement forms an integral part of the programme. It is likely to be particularly suitable to those who wish to work in the new design and construction industry, as exacting requirements and new standards will require new skills and understanding of green building technologies. The programme provides credits and progression to FETAC Level 6 in Architectural Technology.
