Open House Galway returns

Following the outstanding success of last year’s inaugural event, Open House Galway returns from 15 to 17 October. Explore the architecture of the city, with special tours by professionals and enthusiasts, completely for free. Presented in partnership with the Irish Architecture Foundation, Open House Galway 2010 will feature over 30 buildings of quality design in the city and its environs, including private dwellings, incorporating sustainable materials and innovative design and well as commercial, public and educational buildings.

Curated by a local voluntary committee, this year’s programme juxtaposes visits to city landmarks such as the Harbour Master’s Offices and GMIT with tours of contemporary Gaeltacht architecture featuring the Language Commissioners’ Offices and the studios of TG4. Historical gems include architectural tours of Mutton Island Lighthouse while the Marine Institute and the SAP Buildings showcase contemporary design innovations.

The final programme of events will be available in print from mid-September 2010. All Open House Galway events are free of charge. A number will require pre-booking, which opens online in mid-September 2010. Visit www.openhousegalway.ie for regular programme updates.
