Recycled Space – art project

Are you interested in participating in an art work with the potential to recycle place and material? The artist is now seeking drawings of unrealised buildings for use in a current work. All drawings used will appear in an altered form and will therefore not be recognisable in any way. The drawings can be sent in shredded form. To participate please email the artist with your expression of interest by January 31st 2010. All participating architects will be credited.

A surplus of vacant retail, office and residential space has become available in the current recession. Many of these “˜slack spaces’ have been left without their intended tenants and are therefore ripe for appropriation. Artists now have the opportunity to utilise such spaces for alternative exhibition spaces and studios. This provides an opening for art making and curation outside the traditional gallery and somewhat beyond market forces. Art practice in this context can live within the city streetscape thus inviting greater public engagement. The artist is currently focusing on the opportunity provided by the many underutilised spaces currently available in Dublin city. By locating her work in this context she can make reference to current social and economic concerns by recycling space and material.

A site specific installation in response to the chosen space. The architectural elements of the space will inform the work.

The raw material for the work will consist of architectural drawings for unbuilt structures. The material will be transformed and used to create an installation.
