100 years of architecture school in UCD
In 1911 University College Dublin opened the first school of architecture in Ireland. Just three students began their studies that day, but over the following 100 years, more than 1,900 students have passed through the school’s studios and lecture rooms in Earlsfort Terrace and, more recently, in Richview.
Many architects who studied and taught at UCD have played a crucial role in the shaping of modern Ireland. Others who subsequently worked abroad have made a real impact in many parts of the world and have brought international influences back to a rapidly changing Ireland. Some graduates have achieved renown in other fields, from broadcasting and politics to the performing arts.
UCD School of Architecture is currently planning a series of events to celebrate the centenary, beginning with an exhibition in September 2011. We are hoping to compile a complete list of names and current contact details of all the alumni in order to acknowledge their part in our story, and to keep them informed of events planned during the year.
