The present main façade and entrance to the Imperial Hotel was originally constructed as a separate building the “Commercial Buildings” on South Mall by Sir Thomas Deane in 1813. The building comprised a newsroom, coffee room, restaurant and some sleeping accommodation for the businessmen of the city. The hotel was originally on Pembroke Street, and later combined with it.
