“In our present number we give a perspective view of this new building, the plans for which were obtained in a limited competition decided a few days since. The principal elevation shows a frontage three storeys high, and about 200 ft., in length with projecting centre and flanking pavilions. On the ground floor will be large hall and stairs, with four large study halls and prayer hall, and large physics hall and laboratory, together with private entrance and parlour. On this floor are also provided kitchen and offices, conveniently places and connected with refectory.

The buildings, new and old, are connected by cloister corridor running the whole length at the rere. On the first and second floors are situated the director’s and students’ rooms and bath rooms. The lighting and ventilation throughout have been carefully provided for.

The style adopted is a free treatment of Italian, and the principal materials will be granite and brick. The works are to be proceeded with at once, from the designs and under the superintendence of the architect, Mr. J.J. O’Callaghan, F.R.I.A.I., Dublin.” Published in The Irish Builder, May 15 1884.
