1841 – Browne-Clayton Monument, Carrigbyrne, Co. Wexford

Started in 1839 by General Robert Browne-Clayton as a memorial to his late commander Sir Ralph Abercromby, whom he had served under in the Egyptian Campaign of 1801. Constructed of Mount Leinster granite, it contains an internal staircase leading to the capital. The design replicates the monument known as Pompey’s Pillar in Alexandria, Egypt where Napolean had made his camp for the campaign.
