Cathal Brugha Street Dublin

Named after a signatory of the 1916 Rising – was Originally Gregg Lane but was renamed Cathal Brugha Street when it was redeveloped during the reconstruction of the O’Connell Street in the 1920s. Cathal Brugha (1874-1922) was a leading republican and was crippled in the rising of 1916. He presided over the first meeting of Dial Eireann at the Mansion House in 1919 and became the first Minister for Defence. Opposed to the treaty, he was killed early on in the Irish Civil War.
