In 1876 a new church to a design by J.J. O’Callaghan began construction in Castlebar,
Designed by Walter G. Doolin and completed by his partner Rudolph Maximilian Butler after Doolin’s premature death aged 52.

An impressive large-scale church built by Andrew Cullen to designs prepared by Walter Glynn Doolin (1850-1902) who died before completion.
Selected after an architectural competition to replace an earlier church of 1841.
