Cromwell’s artillery left very little of the 13th century Castletown castle in the 1650s. Two storeys partially remain (with a 3-storey spiral stairway) of this 13th Century castle.
Illustrated as largely intact in 1794, the castle is now much decayed. Probably built after the previous castle was burned in 1315,

A Franciscan friary founded in 1353, by William O’Kelly, Lord of Ui Maine. The remaining building which are in good condition ,
The first monastery founded here by St. Baeten in the late 7th century no longer exists. The current ruins date from the late 12th century onwards.
One of the finest and best preserved Franciscan monasteries in Ireland, Rosserk was founded in 1440. Now a National Monument, the single aisled church has a finely carved west doorway.

The present day abbey ruins date from the fifteenth century. Nearby is another ruin which was likely residential accommodation for the priests of Fenagh.
Moyne Abbey is one of most impressive ecclesiastical ruins in Mayo and a National Monument. It was founded by the Burke family as a Franciscan friary and consecrated in 1462.
