In 1968 proposals were invited for a new Dublin Corporation office block at Wood Quay in Dublin.
The hotel was originally located at number 8 Upper Ormond Quay but was later expanded in the early 20th Century to encompass a large portion of the quay from numbers 7 to 11.
Designed by J. Rawson Carroll around 1865, with later work at the end of the 19th century by William M.
Showroom and offices for Messrs Heiton Ltd, builders suppliers. Their premises and yard was later the site of several planning applications and a public hearing before becoming the site of the Ulster Bank headquarters.
