The original house dates from the early 17th century, with the orangery added in about 1700.
The site of City Hall on Cork Hill was originally the site of Sainte Marie del Dame which came into the possession of Richard Boyle 1st Earl of Cork who built his home on the site Cork House around 1600.
Designed by local architect John Roberts, this is one of the architectural gems of Waterford. In 1773 the old Norman Gothic Cathedral was demolished after pressure was brought on the local bishop by the City Corporation.
