Lismore was first served by rail when the independent Fermoy & Lismore Railway connected the town with that of the already existing Great Southern &

The bridge was erected in 1885 as part of the Farranfore to Renard railway line which was closed in 1960.
Cobh railway station was originally the terminus of the Queenstown (Cobh) section of the Cork,
Served by a small station by the Great Southern Railways Company, one of the four original stations opened by the company.
The second station on this site, the original station was designed by John Benson and remains,
Cahersiveen railway station was on the Great Southern and Western Railway (GS&WR) which ran from Farranfore to Valentia Harbour. The last service train ran on 30 January 1960.
Purpose built hotel constructed for the Great Southern Railways Company as part of their scheme to bring tourists to the Kerry area via their railway routes.
Originally started out as Parknasilla House after the Bland family built Derryquin Castle on the grounds as a new resience.
